Java Developer

About the job

BGTS is looking for a Java Developer to join our growing team based in Turkey, the UK, and the EU. Our teams support many clients in the UK and EU across industries.

What will you be doing:

• Optimize energy flow across the grid by developing smart control strategies based on risk and capacity.
• Contribute to the design and development of a decision-making module that prevents grid overload with minimal stakeholder impact.
• Support the rebuild of this module in line with new technical and business requirements.
• Collaborate with the System Operations team to monitor and manage grid capacity in real time.
• Help create scalable applications that enable efficient energy routing and flexible grid use.
• Work in a hybrid setup, with at least one day per week at the Arnhem office.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working/thinking level.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on programming experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
• Strong knowledge of Microservices architecture, including RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, particularly JSON document stores (e.g., MongoDB or DocumentDB).
• Proficient in Spring Boot framework.
• Solid understanding of unit, integration, and component testing.
• Comfortable working in an Agile environment, with strong stakeholder management and team collaboration skills.
• Motivated to solve complex challenges related to the digitalization of the electrical grid, with a scaling and solution-oriented mindset.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Familiarity with the energy sector and its challenges
• Experience with Kafka and other event-driven systems
• Knowledge of modern infrastructure tools like Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD)
• Comfortable working in Linux environments, including bash scripting
• Understanding or experience with event sourcing patterns
