Data Ecologist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and multidisciplinary Data Ecologist to support our ecological analytics, biodiversity assessments, and digital mapping initiatives. This role combines data analysis, digital ecology, and occasional fieldwork to support the accurate interpretation and reporting of site-based ecological data. The ideal candidate will possess strong ecological knowledge, a passion for data-driven conservation, and the flexibility to support both office-based and on-ground activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Digital Biodiversity Assessment & Data Management

• Input, organize, and manage ecological data derived from digitally conducted biodiversity assessments.
• Interpret structural and ecological site features using satellite imagery, drone data, and remote sensing platforms.
• Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across datasets.
• Identify native and exotic flora and fauna species using digital assessment tools and reference databases.

Ecological Analysis & Interpretation

• Knowledge with local Mangrove, Coastal and Arid ecosystems in the UAE and Gulf region
• Ecological and Environmental documentation to meet regulatory requirements
• Map and classify vegetation communities through remote data interpretation, GIS overlays, and digital assessments.
• Perform statistical analyses to assess species richness, distribution patterns, and biodiversity indices across different habitats.
• Contribute to the interpretation of ecological trends and habitat conditions using data science and spatial ecology techniques.

Research & Product Development Support

• Support the continuous improvement of internal tools and digital platforms, including updates to species databases, ecological classification systems, and GIS assets.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ecologists, and AI development teams on product enhancements and model validations.
• Provide input on ecological features relevant to the development and refinement of AI-powered biodiversity and ecosystem assessment tools.

GIS & Spatial Data Handling

• Utilize GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to analyze spatial ecological data and generate maps for internal and client use.
• Maintain spatial data layers related to vegetation types, species occurrence, habitat conditions, and landform classification.

Field Ecology Support

• Provide support to the field ecology team during ecological surveys, biodiversity monitoring, and habitat assessments.
• Assist in field data collection, species identification, and ecological observations under the guidance of field ecologists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
• Proficiency with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data analysis.
• Familiarity with remote sensing platforms (e.g., drone and satellite imagery) for ecological assessments.
• Solid understanding of Mangrove, Coastal, and Arid ecosystems in the UAE and Gulf region.
• Experience managing ecological datasets and ensuring data quality and accuracy.
• Ability to analyze biodiversity data and interpret ecological patterns using statistical or spatial ecology techniques.
• Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and AI developers.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Clear communication of ecological insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Prior experience in environmental consultancy, conservation tech, or nature-based solutions is a plus.
