The Opportunity
As a back-end Developer, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining robust backend systems and APIs that power Astellas’ generative AI platforms and digital transformation initiatives.
You will also focuses on production-level deployment, efficient data integration, and seamless handling of diverse data formats, ensuring scalable and reliable service delivery across commercial, manufacturing, and medical operations.

Key Activities For This Role
- API Development & Integration: Design, develop, and maintain secure and scalable RESTful and GraphQL APIs to connect frontend applications with backend services.
- Production-Level Deployment: Lead efforts in deploying backend systems to production environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
- Data Management & Integration: Handle various data formats (e.g., JSON, XML, CSV) and integrate with SQL and NoSQL databases for efficient data storage, retrieval, and processing.
- DevOps & Automation: Implement CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and automated deployment processes to streamline backend operations and updates.
- Collaboration & Mentoring: Work closely with cross-functional teams—including frontend engineers, data scientists, and data engineers—to ensure cohesive system performance; mentor junior team members in best practices.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor backend systems, perform root cause analysis, and troubleshoot issues to maintain optimal operational performance.
- Proven experience in backend development using Python.
- Strong expertise in designing and implementing secure, scalable APIs (RESTful and GraphQL).
- Demonstrated ability to deploy and manage backend systems in production environments, including experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency in handling various data formats and integrating with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Solid understanding of software design patterns, security best practices, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with ETL processes and tools for data extraction, transformation, and loading. Experience working on machine learning projects or generative AI applications.
- Proven track record of collaborating with data engineers and data scientists on data-driven initiatives.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Understanding of application monitoring and logging tools (e.g., App Insights, CloudWatch).
- Experience working with commercial data and developing applications is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent.
- This is a permanent role based in Poland.
- This role requires a blend of home and minimum once a week in our Warsaw office in Poland. Flexibility may be required in line with business needs. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office
