Data Scientist I

Introduction

We’re looking for a Data Scientist II to join a high-impact, cross-functional team of data scientists and engineers focused on bringing generative AI and machine learning to life within Apptio’s suite of FinOps products, including ApptioOne, Cloudability, and beyond.

This role blends applied software engineering with innovative AI use cases, helping enterprise customers gain deeper, faster, and more actionable insights into their cloud and IT spend.

Your Role And Responsibilities

Design, train, and validate machine learning models to solve real-world business problems in the FinOps/TBM space
Develop and productionize models in collaboration with software engineering teams
Leverage large-scale data from cloud providers, IT systems, and financial platforms to identify trends and optimization opportunities
Explore and experiment with LLMs, NLP, and generative AI techniques to improve user experiences, reporting, and automation
Partner closely with product managers, data engineers, and UX designers to shape intelligent product features
Communicate insights and model behavior to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

Demonstrated hands-on experience in a data science or machine learning role
Proficiency in Python and experience with common libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
Familiarity with generative AI, LLMs, or NLP
Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, model evaluation, and statistical methods
Experience working with large datasets and SQL-based environments
Comfort working across the full ML lifecycle—from experimentation to deployment and monitoring
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

Experience with cloud cost optimization, FinOps, or enterprise financial platforms
Knowledge of MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, SageMaker, Airflow)
Familiarity with Apptio products (ApptioOne, Cloudability, Targetprocess)
