The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is seeking an Android Engineer to advance their apps, Merlin Bird ID and eBird, connecting millions of people to birds worldwide. The engineer will join a team of 6-8 developers to design and develop mobile apps. Responsibilities include designing and developing Android applications, ensuring performance and quality, syncing design libraries with code, fixing bugs, maintaining and improving code quality, and staying updated on Android technologies. The role requires fostering a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 3+ years of Android app development experience in Java/Kotlin, experience with RESTful APIs, understanding of Android design principles, Git experience, project management skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and experience with inclusion and wellbeing programs. Preferred qualifications include deep understanding of birds and birding community, 5+ years of Android app development experience. The position is full-time, based in Ithaca, NY, with remote work allowed within the US. Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not available.
