Deep Learning Engineer - LLMs, Edge AI & Autonomous Systems
Sydney, NSW | On-site | Permanent | Excellent Base + Super + Equity
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an opportunity to take advanced AI models out of the cloud and into the real world, powering intelligent agents that understand human language and turn it into real actions.
You’ll work at the cutting edge of Large Language Models and Edge AI, building systems that translate spoken or written instructions into decisions and behaviours for autonomous platforms.
This is not another generic cloud ML role, you’ll be hands-on with real datasets, model optimisation, and deployment on embedded hardware where every trade-off counts.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design, train, and optimise transformer-based LLMs to handle real-world voice and text input.
- Develop and manage custom datasets, including organising data collection campaigns to fill gaps.
- Integrate speech recognition and natural language processing into agentic systems that act autonomously.
- Optimise models for edge deployment, making them run efficiently on resource-constrained hardware (NVIDIA Jetson or similar).
- Work closely with robotics and systems engineers to embed language models into autonomous vehicles or devices.
- Own the end-to-end pipeline from research through to deployment and field testing.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Proven experience training LLMs or transformer NLP models, not just using pre-built APIs.
- Strong grasp of edge AI deployment and hardware constraints.
- Background in building datasets and understanding how to keep improving them.
- Practical knowledge of speech-to-text pipelines or language-to-action frameworks is a plus.
- Skilled in Python and familiar with TensorFlow/PyTorch and comfortable getting under the hood for performance tuning.
- Experience balancing model size, speed, and accuracy for real-time, embedded use.
- Cross-functional mindset, aware that ML choices impact robotics, hardware, and system performance.
- Australian Citizenship or PR (must-have).
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with MCP or agent frameworks.
- CUDA/TensorRT or other hardware acceleration tools.
- ROS/ROS2 familiarity.
- Previous work integrating ML into robotics or control systems.
WHY JOIN?
- Highly competitive salary + super + equity, you’re not just building, you’re invested.
- Real-world impact, your models will run on systems people rely on in challenging environments.
- Supportive, ambitious team with strong backing and clear growth opportunities.
- Work at the frontier of AI, autonomy and edge computing, not just theory, but practical deployment.
