Backend Engineer

Location: Berlin | Hybrid | 1 day per week onsite

Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time

Salary: €90,000 – €120,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits

We’re partnered with a mission-led tech company focused on improving lives through innovative digital solutions. As they scale their platform to support growing demand across Europe, they’re now looking for a Backend Engineer to join their engineering team and contribute to the development of high-performing, scalable systems that make a meaningful impact.

This is a great opportunity for a backend developer who thrives in an agile, cross-functional environment and is keen to take ownership of software that’s actively used by hundreds of thousands of people.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to turn user and business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Build, improve, and maintain high-performance backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
• Contribute to the development of new features and enhancements, ensuring clean architecture and maintainable code.
• Manage the platforms backend lifecycle end to end—from development through to deployment and production monitoring.
• Proactively identify and resolve platform issues through detailed root cause analysis and preventative improvements.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience delivering scalable backend applications in modern programming languages (e.g. Java 17+, Kotlin, Jakarta).
• Solid understanding of relational databases and experience writing optimised SQL queries.
• Comfortable working in agile teams and contributing to the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong problem-solving ability, with a focus on designing clean and scalable architecture.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset when working across engineering and product teams.
• Background in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred.
