Founding Backend Engineer (m/f/d)

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead and scale our cloud infrastructure and build Python-based systems. You’ll own core systems that power our AI-first insurance claims automation engine, ensuring they’re secure, scalable, observable, and fast.

This is not just another dev role—you’ll be building foundational systems for a mission-critical, regulated product. You’ll drive everything from infrastructure automation with Terraform, to Python-based services, to DevOps and security best practices.

You’ll work side-by-side with our CPO — but that’s not all. You’ll also have direct mentorship from our Head of Engineering. With 15+ years of startup experience — including at BCG Digital Ventures, SoundCloud, and Issuu — he’s scaled products from early MVP to millions of users, built world-class teams, and seen what it takes to win. You’ll learn how to build right — and build fast.

• Architect Cloud-Native Systems: Design scalable backend systems using Python, event-driven services, and service patterns


• Own Infrastructure as Code: Lead the design and maintenance of our Terraform-managed AWS infrastructure


• DevOps & Observability: Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines, logging, tracing, and system health checks


• Security & Compliance: Build with SOC2 and GDPR in mind—IAM, encryption, audit logs, zero trust


• Performance & Scalability: Optimize infrastructure for throughput, reliability, and latency


• Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with product and AI engineers to align tech with business goals and mentor less senior devs


• Automation & Tooling: Build tools that make developers faster and systems safer

• 5+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering in a high-paced environment (e.g., start-up, scale-up)


• Expert in Python: Clean code, strong test coverage, performance tuning


• AWS & Terraform Proficiency: Multi-environment setups, modularization, versioning, secrets management


• Cloud-Native Design: Event-driven patterns, serverless functions, asynchronous job processing


• Security-first Mindset: Identity management, encryption, secure defaults

• Experience deploying AI/ML pipelines, vector databases, or model-serving infrastructure


• Building developer platforms or internal tooling for automation


• Experience with insurance, regtech, or other high-compliance domains
