Python Developer – Contract
Rate: $35 - $45 per hour (C2C)

Berkley Hunt is partnering with a leading Fortune 500 healthcare company to undertake a strategic modernisation of its legacy analytics infrastructure. As part of this transformation, they are migrating mission-critical workflows from SAS to Python to enable better performance, scalability, and cloud-native compatibility. This is a high-impact role for developers who enjoy working at the intersection of data, infrastructure, and analytics transformation.
Role Responsibilities:
- Analyze and understand complex SAS Base and Macro scripts used in data analytics and reporting workflows
- Rewrite and optimize SAS logic into clean, maintainable Python code using tools like Pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, and PySpark
- Validate migration accuracy by comparing results across legacy and modern platforms
- Collaborate with analytics, data engineering, and business teams to capture logic and ensure proper implementation
- Build automated tests and validations to ensure functional parity with SAS workflows
- Refactor and modularize Python code for scalability, maintainability, and cloud-readiness
- Document migration processes, assumptions, and results for auditing and future maintenance
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional Python development experience
- Deep familiarity with SAS Base and SAS Macros, with the ability to interpret and translate complex SAS logic
- Prior experience performing SAS to Python migrations in production environments
- Strong proficiency with Python data libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and SQLAlchemy
- Working knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts
- Familiarity with Git, Jupyter Notebooks, and collaborative development workflows
- Strong debugging, testing, and documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently and communicating with cross-functional teams
Nice to Have:
- Experience with PySpark or other distributed processing frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Exposure to CI/CD, DevOps, and modern software deployment practices
- Understanding of BI/reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI
- Background working in healthcare or other regulated data environments
