Python Developer – Contract

Rate: $35 - $45 per hour (C2C)

Berkley Hunt is partnering with a leading Fortune 500 healthcare company to undertake a strategic modernisation of its legacy analytics infrastructure. As part of this transformation, they are migrating mission-critical workflows from SAS to Python to enable better performance, scalability, and cloud-native compatibility. This is a high-impact role for developers who enjoy working at the intersection of data, infrastructure, and analytics transformation.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and understand complex SAS Base and Macro scripts used in data analytics and reporting workflows
  • Rewrite and optimize SAS logic into clean, maintainable Python code using tools like Pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, and PySpark
  • Validate migration accuracy by comparing results across legacy and modern platforms
  • Collaborate with analytics, data engineering, and business teams to capture logic and ensure proper implementation
  • Build automated tests and validations to ensure functional parity with SAS workflows
  • Refactor and modularize Python code for scalability, maintainability, and cloud-readiness
  • Document migration processes, assumptions, and results for auditing and future maintenance


Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional Python development experience
  • Deep familiarity with SAS Base and SAS Macros, with the ability to interpret and translate complex SAS logic
  • Prior experience performing SAS to Python migrations in production environments
  • Strong proficiency with Python data libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and SQLAlchemy
  • Working knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts
  • Familiarity with Git, Jupyter Notebooks, and collaborative development workflows
  • Strong debugging, testing, and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working independently and communicating with cross-functional teams


Nice to Have:

  • Experience with PySpark or other distributed processing frameworks
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • Exposure to CI/CD, DevOps, and modern software deployment practices
  • Understanding of BI/reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Background working in healthcare or other regulated data environments
