The Work You'll Do

As a Principal Cloud Engineer, you will provide end-to-end technical leadership for all technologies and systems within the systems engineering domain at Sovos. Responsible to define and drive the technical and operational strategy for public cloud governance, ensuring the implementation of best practices in DevOps, FinOps, security, automation, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical to ensuring that our cloud platforms remain secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with business needs and technological challenges spanning multiple business units and environments. This position will mentor others on system engineering best practices, techniques, review and develop plans for hardening system standards and lead automation efforts for systems engineering deployments. This position is a lead for others by exemplifying technical excellence, inclusiveness, teamwork, and customer focus. This role is responsible for providing leadership, technical direction and oversight to a team as they deliver technology solutions.

More Specifically, You Will

• Design and implement the public cloud governance framework, including access, security, cost, and compliance policies.
• Lead the implementation and maturity of governance frameworks such as DevSecOps, FinOps, and Control Tower Landing Zone patterns. - Participate in technical debt committees and strategic decisions regarding architecture and platform.
• Oversee the operation and collaborate with platform and techOps teams, ensuring their availability, performance, and scalability of cloud platforms.
• Drive the automation of deployments, changes, and repetitive tasks through infrastructure as code and reusable pipelines.
• Coordinate incident, change, and critical event management, ensuring operational continuity and system observability across business units.
• Implement strategies for cloud cost control and optimization, including budgets, alerts, and financial reports by identifying cost anomalies and saving opportunities.
• Establish cost ownership, chargeback/showback models, and budget alerts to increase cost accountability and transparency.
• Promote transparency in resource consumption and train technical teams in FinOps practices.
  
  

What We Ask From You

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
• Fluency in English
• Over 8 years of proven success in AWS, Oracle cloud infrastructure and automation.
• Knowledge in AWS Lambda and AWS EC2, Containers, RDS, AWS Service Manage, Security Hub, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, S3.
• Proven experience leading operations in public cloud environments.
• Advanced knowledge in automation, observability, security, and financial management in the cloud.
• Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and governance frameworks (FinOps, ITIL, DevOps).
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools, Bitbucket pipelines, CMDB.
• Understanding of the software delivery lifecycle.
• Familiar with infrastructure as code (for example, Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Experience with operation analysis, monitoring and implementation tools in the cloud, CloudWatch and Grafana Cloud.
• Advanced knowledge in administration of Linux servers, Windows in the cloud and VMware.
• Knowledge of PKI technology and encryption algorithms.
• Knowledge of Python for process automation.
• Motivated entrepreneur capable of managing time and projects in a fully remote work environment.
• Knowledge of resource costs in the cloud in addition to managing the Cost Explorer tool.
