Project Context
seeking a skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join the Implicit Flexibility team within the Market Energy Solutions department. This team focuses on enabling demand-side flexibility in the electricity system, particularly in relation to price incentives such as imbalance pricing. Your role will support the design and evaluation of balancing mechanisms that help optimize electricity usage and promote a more sustainable energy market.
Mission & Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist, your mission will be to develop and implement advanced analytical methods to track and understand implicit flexibility in the energy market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze available flexibility through research, interviews, data analysis, and estimation.
- Conduct advanced data analyses to evaluate correlations between renewable forecasts, price signals, market behavior, and system imbalances.
- Map and connect different types of flexibility:
- Installed (hardware like electric vehicles)
- Available (capable of reacting to price signals)
- Activated (actual behavior changes observed)
- Design and apply algorithms, models, and tools to improve system operations and flexibility visibility.
- Present insights and results to other teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to related initiatives and projects within the implicit flexibility team as needed.
Profile Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Python.
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to structure and solve complex problems using data.
- Deep understanding of statistical techniques and machine learning methods.
- Ability to translate business questions into quantitative models and meaningful insights.
Energy Sector Knowledge:
- General understanding of electricity markets and energy system operations.
- Prior experience in the energy industry or with flexibility/imbalance concepts is a strong asset.
Soft Skills:
- Able to manage and prioritize a mix of operational and conceptual tasks autonomously.
- Proactive, quick learner with a detail-oriented yet strategic mindset.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, capable of engaging with cross-functional teams.
- Able to take initiative and drive project outcomes.
Languages:
- English: Fluent (spoken and written) – required
- Dutch and/or French: Fluent or strong command – preferred
