How will you contribute?


You will be part of the Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity (SUSTAIN) Unit, which conducts cross-disciplinary research to support the transition toward a more sustainable, resilient, and healthy society. SUSTAIN combines expertise in environmental sciences, circular economy, risk and safety assessment, and sustainable innovation to address complex challenges related to human and environmental health, climate change, and resource efficiency.

You will join the Industrial Ecology (IE) Group within the SUSTAIN Unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). The IE Group conducts research at the intersection between Life-cycle Assessment and other approaches related to industrial ecology (Material Flow Analysis, Ecosystem services assessment, etc.). These approaches are commonly implemented as code to scale-up, to make them available to the scientific community and industrial and societal actors, and to validate the investigated approaches.

We are looking for a specialist in biodiversity impact assessment, with solid track record in both academic and applied research. The ideal candidate has proven knowledge in biodiversity quantification and ecosystem services assessment methods applied to the evaluation products, technologies and transition pathways and proven experience in their application to support decision making in industrial and policy-making contexts.

Education


· PhD in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or areas related to life cycle assessment or industrial ecology.

· Fluency in English (both written and oral)


Experience and skills


· + Minimum 4 years of experience after PhD completion

· + Team spirit is a must

· + Proven experience in transferring academic results to society

· + Proven experience in acquisition of competitrive research funding

· + Proven programming skills (ideally with python)

· + Experience with machine learning models, spatial analysis, landscape ecology and/or Earth observation are additional assets


Language skills

· Good level both written and spoken English
