Product Designer

One of our Federal Government Clients is seeking to engage a Product Designers. This is a long-term contractual position.

1. Contract Duration: 18 Months (06 Months initially + 12 Months extension)
2. Work Location: Across Australia (work 2 days from office and 3 days from home each week)
3. Eligibility: You must need to have Baseline Security Clearance or above.
4. Tentative Start Date: 29th July 2025

Position Description:

The Sourcing Platforms team at the Department is responsible for managing the a platform, which enables Whole of Government digital procurement by hosting the department managed marketplaces, panels, and single seller arrangements. The team is seeking, an APS6 equivalent, skilled Product Designer to enhance the overall functionality and usability of the platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to create engaging and seamless user experiences, ensuring that every interaction is user-friendly and adds value to the user's experience.

Key duties and responsibilities

The Product designer will be:

• Collaborating with user researchers and a Product Manager to deeply understand user needs, behaviours, and challenges.
• Working with the product manager to understand requirements and business limitations, while aligning design solutions with product goals.
• Work with other designers to conceptualise and prototype solutions that effectively address core user needs and issues, fostering a collaborative design environment.
• Iterating designs based on stakeholder feedback and usability testing so that they are ready for development.
• Ensuring all designs are accessible and adhere to user-centered design principles and accessibility standards.
• Working closely with developers to understand technical limitations and create detailed interaction specifications for implementation.
• Maintaining a comprehensive perspective of the user experience to ensure consistency and coherence across the platform.
• Maintain internal design systems to ensure long-term consistency across the platform.

This role is crucial for someone who is not only passionate about design but also about making a meaningful impact on the user experience, with a flexibility to adapt design fidelity as needed.

Essential Criteria:

• Candidates must demonstrate a strong ability to create and iterate intuitive and engaging user experiences that meet the needs and expectations of users, all while complying with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
• Candidates must have the ability to work effectively within a team environment, engaging with user researchers, developers, product managers, and stakeholders to align design solutions with business objectives.
• A deep understanding of design tools is essential (for example Figma and Miro), along with the flexibility to produce designs at varying fidelity levels, tailored to the specific requirements of the project's context and objectives.

Desirable Criteria:

• Familiarity with the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is advantageous, as it enables a more holistic approach to user experience design understanding of technical constraints and closer collaboration with development teams.
• Agile Development Experience: Familiarity with Agile methodologies is beneficial, fostering a flexible and responsive design approach that complements fast-paced development environments.
