Your mission

We are Vertigo Games, developers and publishers of top-end VR titles like Metro Awakening, Arizona Sunshine, After the Fall and The 7th Guest. Our Amsterdam studio has started development of our next games, including an adventure into mobile gaming, for which we are looking to recruit a Senior Gameplay Programmer who can aid us in our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the codebase, architecture and implementation, working closely with the tech lead to define vision, scope and priorities.
  • Work closely with designers to identify the technical constraints based on their creative guidance, and create fun and engaging gameplay.
  • Use your knowledge of object oriented design, algorithms and data structures to create solid technical designs and efficient implementations.
  • Analyze prototype code and come up with production quality systems that are robust and can stand the test of time in an iterative environment.
  • Ensure the systems and code base are maintained, don’t accumulate too much tech debt, and support the long term vision of our game.
  • Take performance into account so our games and experiences can keep running at a smooth 60 FPS.
  • Analyze problems and debug them in order to quickly locate and fix challenging bugs.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate team members.

Your profile

  • You have 5+ years of experience.
  • You have created games with a variety of game engines like Unity, Unreal, etc.
  • Experience with modern programming languages like TypeScript, C# or C++.
  • Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming, design patterns, algorithms and data structures.
  • A focus on quality, writing clear, well-tested, maintainable, and extendable code.
  • Technical and creative at the same time.
  • Social and collaborative.
  • Excited by the potential of mobile games and the metaverse.
  • Eligible to work in the EU without a visa.

Bonus points for

  • Experience working on mobile games.
  • Previous experience with TypeScript or JavaScript.
