About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior BI Specialist (Freelance) to join our client’s team in Brussels on a 6-month, full-time hybrid engagement. You’ll be at the heart of a Microsoft BI environment, empowering supervisory teams to unlock actionable insights and drive business-critical decisions. What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop, test, and manage BI solutions using Power BI and the Microsoft BI stack (SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS).
• Collaborate closely with business users to understand requirements and translate them into actionable BI deliverables.
• Coach and train supervisory teams in self-service BI, enabling them to create reports, dashboards, and analytics independently.
• Enrich the BI environment with new, generic, and maintainable capabilities that scale across teams.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including requirements, design specs, technical artifacts, and user manuals.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes and strategies through technology-driven solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement in data integration, data quality, and user experience.
• Participate in project planning, estimation, and agile ceremonies (standups, status meetings) as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 8 years of experience as a BI Analyst or BI Developer in a Microsoft BI production environment.
• Expertise in developing reports and analytics using Power BI, SQL Server 2019 or higher, and SSAS (OLAP cubes).
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for data integration processes.
• Proven track record in delivering business information projects where data integration, data quality, and user experience are key success factors.
• Experience coaching and training end users in BI tools and self-service analytics.
• Microsoft MCP certification or equivalent is a plus.
• Analytical, structured, and creative mindset with a passion for solving complex problems.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a motivated team player.

Technical Skills

• Power BI (Expert)
• MS SQL Server 2019 or higher (Expert)
• SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) – OLAP cubes (Expert)
• SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) (Expert)
• Business Intelligence (BI) methodologies and best practices
• HP-UX (Expert)

Language Proficiency

• Fluent in French or Dutch (professional working proficiency required)
• Understanding of French, Dutch, and English (English is a plus)

Other Requirements

• Recent experience as a Senior BI Expert (within the current year)
• Experience in hybrid work environments (onsite in Brussels and remote)
• Ability to contribute to both independent and team-based projects
