Java Backend Developer

International Organisation in Brussels is seeking a Java Backend Developer to join the team on a long term contract assignment. The client is offering a hybrid working model but some work will be required to be performed onsite in Brussels.

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Java Backend Developer

• Development of back-end website applications.
• Integration of user-facing elements developed by a front-end developers with server side logic.
• Creation of servers and databases for functionality.
• Design and implementation of data storage solutions.
• Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
• Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.
• Design and develop APIs.
• Participating in the design and creation of scalable software.
• Maintenance of code integrity and organisation.
• Writing clean, functional code on the back-end.
• Compile and analyse data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
• Testing and fixing bugs or other coding issues and write technical documentation.

Required skills and experience

• Master's degree in IT field with minimum of 13 years of relevant experience (or Bachelor's degree with minimum of 17 years of relevant experience).
• At least 10 years of specific expertise in J2EE Java, with SPRING framework, WebLogic and API/REST/SOAP.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in SQL/PLSQL.
• Strong experience in data modelling and database design techniques and tools (e.g. SQL Developer Data Modeler, Hackolade, NoSQL Workbench).
• Strong experience in development tools (e.g. Oracle SQL Developer) and relational database systems (e.g. Oracle).
• At least 1 year experience with NODE and Subversion/Git.
• Previous experience with Agile methodology.
• Exposure in front-end technologies (i.e. Angular, HTML5, CSS, XML, JavaScript, JQuery).
• Excellent English (C-level, written and spoken).
