The Engineering Lead – Mobile App at Jetstar Digital plays a key role in shaping the future of our customer-facing mobile experience. This role is responsible for driving the technical strategy, development, and delivery of the Jetstar mobile app as we transition from Capacitor JS to React Native and embark on a major expansion of customer-focused features.

Working with a globally distributed team across Melbourne, Singapore, and Bangkok—including vendor partners—you will lead the engineering function to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions while fostering long-term growth and continuous innovation across the mobile platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a distributed team of mobile engineers across Melbourne, Singapore, and Bangkok, including vendor delivery partners.
  • Drive the development and delivery of Jetstar’s customer-facing mobile app, ensuring performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Own the technical strategy for the mobile platform, including the migration from Capacitor JS to React Native.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, design, and other engineering domains (Customer, Booking, Payments) to align on goals and execution.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence through code reviews, testing, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Monitor and optimize app performance using Firebase and mobile analytics tools.
  • Ensure effective delivery from offshore vendor teams by managing priorities, quality, and velocity.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation to support onboarding and long-term sustainability.
  • Foster a high-performance team culture centered around innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on mobile app development.
  • Proven hands-on expertise in React Native or equivalent cross-platform mobile frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams, including distributed and vendor-based teams.
  • Strong grasp of mobile architecture, performance optimization, and app lifecycle best practices.
  • Proficiency in Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) and mobile tooling for monitoring and deployment.
  • Experience working in agile environments and collaborating with product managers, designers, and backend engineers.
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g. Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions).
  • Clear, effective communication skills, with the ability to influence and align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities, with a focus on delivering scalable solutions.
