Chief Technology Officer

Job Description

UMATR are proud to bring the following position to the market for an innovative Swiss startup pushing the boundaries in what is historically a traditional domain. They are seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Technology Officer (CTO) based in Switzerland to lead their technology organisation. You will oversee Engineering, AI/ML, DevOps, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and Full-Stack development teams. As CTO, you will define the technical direction, ensure system integrity and security, and guide the company from beta to global scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and communicate a long-term technology vision, aligned with our business strategy and product roadmap.
• Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams including Engineering (frontend/backend), AI/ML, DevOps, Infrastructure, and Security.
• Architect a scalable, secure, and modular platform that supports AI-driven services and real-time human-machine collaboration.
• Establish robust CI/CD pipelines, observability systems, and incident management practices to ensure system resilience and rapid iteration.
• Implement cybersecurity best practices, manage risk assessments, and lead efforts toward certifications such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2.
• Shape data infrastructure strategy, including relational and non-relational databases, ensuring performance and compliance across regulated markets.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Product, and Operations teams to ensure platform adherence to regional regulatory frameworks and ethical standards.
• Communicate technical progress, KPIs, and risk mitigation strategies to leadership and board members.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
• 8+ years in senior engineering roles, including at least 4 years leading multi-functional technical teams.
• Demonstrated experience delivering AI-powered SaaS solutions in regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, or other high-compliance environments.
• Deep expertise with modern cloud platforms, DevOps methodologies, and infrastructure automation.
• Strong background in data architecture, including both SQL and NoSQL systems.
• In-depth understanding of data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, Swiss FADP) and experience working within frameworks that require ethical oversight or regulatory compliance.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in French is a plus.
• Swiss residency or eligibility to work in Switzerland, with occasional travel to international partner offices.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with large language model (LLM) frameworks (e.g., LangChain, RAG pipelines, CrewAI).
• Containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform), and monitoring/logging stacks.
• Expertise in database optimisation, high-availability strategies, and migration planning.
• Familiarity with enterprise-grade security protocols including encryption, IAM, SAST/DAST, and zero-trust principles.
• Agile team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and budget oversight.
