One of our Federal Government Clients is seeking to engage Cyber Security Specialist. This is a long-term contractual position.

Location of work: Canberra

Length of contract: 12 months + 12 months extension

Security clearance: Baseline security clearance


Overview:

The Department, which is responsible for central coordination, and strategy and policy leadership in relation to cyber and critical infrastructure resilience and security, immigration, border security and management, counter-terrorism, the protection of our sovereignty, citizenship and social cohesion, and emergency management and trade functions.


The Subject Matter Experts (SME) will report to the Program Manager, Cyber Engagement and Delivery (CED) through the Cyber Delivery Management Office (CDMO), who will direct, govern and manage the delivery of multiple projects within a program to deliver agreed products in order for the Department to realise the agreed benefits, providing a return on investment.


Summary of Requirement:

The resources will work under the direction of the Program Manager and will be instrumental in achieving key cyber security outcome. Resources will be embedded in the Cyber Program to provide strategic and operational support across a range of specialist roles, delivering artefacts and services aligned with departmental and national cyber governance frameworks (e.g., ISM, PSPF, PCI-DSS, SAF).


Roles and Responsibilities:

Cyber Security Specialist:

  • Contribute to the development of cyber security strategies, standards, and cyber security policies.
  • Provide expert advice on security design, architecture, and control frameworks.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of tailored cyber security training and awareness content.
  • Support initiatives aligned with the Cyber Uplift Program (CUP) to enhance departmental capabilities.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of cyber risks.
  • Assist in producing strategic artefacts such as capability roadmaps and implementation plans.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and help uplift cyber knowledge across the program.
