Junior Software Engineer

We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer who’s excited to grow their skills by building backend services and contributing to Zalando’s cloud-based Data Platform. You will be working on platforms like Starburst/Trino, Redshift to provide reliable and scalable fast serving layer for ~2,000 internal users and critical systems.Whether you already have some experience or you're just highly motivated to learn, this is a great opportunity to work on real-world challenges in cloud infrastructure, data engineering, and backend development.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• As part of a data infrastructure team, you and your team will own your code, and decide on the technologies and tools to deliver as well as operate large-scale applications and services on PaaS/SaaS cloud (AWS)
• Offer support to internal platform users when they encounter issues or need guidance. Contribute to user documentation that would make it easier for platform users to access and query data
• Supporting senior engineers in the team to ensure reliable delivery of initiatives
• Support our strategy and come up with innovating ideas to build world class data integration systems one step ahead of the industry
  
  
  
  

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• Basic experience or strong interest in backend development (e.g. using Java,Scala or Python)
• Some exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or a desire to work in cloud environments
• Curiosity about how large-scale data systems work and eagerness to learn about platforms like Starburst,Redshift and Databricks.
• Motivation to support other teams by building services that make data more accessible and manageable
• Nice to have
• Experience with distributed data processing (e.g., Trino, Spark, Hive) or columnar databases( e.g., Redshift)
• Exposure to containerization and service deployment (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience or interest in working on internal platforms that support both technical and non-technical users
