Software Technical Lead – PHP

Our client is a European leader in experience-based gifting, connecting millions of people to unforgettable travel, food, wellness, and adventure packages. With a powerful e-commerce platform and thousands of real-time booking options, they’re now looking for a Backend Tech Lead to shape the future of their booking and availability engine.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll set the direction for backend development, focus on real-time data and availability integrations (hotels, spas, restaurants), and support high-volume B2C systems across Europe.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead the technical vision and architecture for the booking and availability domain
• Design and maintain scalable backend systems using PHP (Symfony)
• Drive best practices across performance, testing, and integration
• Work with cross-functional teams (Dev, QA, Product, Offshore) to deliver solutions that scale
• Take part in code reviews, guide other devs, and shape the team’s technical standards
• Represent your area in wider tech discussions and system decisions
• Promote clean, maintainable, and testable code across the team

What you’ll need:

• 6+ years of backend development experience, with leadership/ownership responsibilities
• 1+ year in technical leadership or mentoring
• Deep experience in PHP (v7/8) and modern frameworks like Symfony
• Strong background in e-commerce platforms, booking systems, or 3rd-party integrations
• Comfortable working with REST/SOAP APIs, relational databases, and asynchronous messaging
• Hands-on with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows
• Clean architecture mindset with knowledge of SOLID principles
• Strong communication skills – confident working across teams and time zones
• Some understanding of search systems and real-time data flows

Bonus points for:

• Experience with OTA specs, booking platforms, or hospitality integrations
• Familiarity with inventory sync or real-time availability tools
• Exposure to DDD or system observability tools (logs, alerts, etc.)
• Symfony or PHP certifications
