ACENSI is looking for a Data Scientist - Electricity for one of their clients based in Brussels :

Service description :

Your primary task will be to develop and implement advanced methods for tracking implicit reactions (to the imbalance price). You will employ data analytics, machine learning models, and other quantitative approaches to understand and predict energy usage patterns. Your expertise in data science will be pivotal in designing algorithms that accurately capture the dynamics of implicit flexibility, offering actionable insights for optimizing energy consumption across various sectors.

By developing reliable tracking mechanisms, you will provide essential data that can be used to assess the effectiveness of implicit flexibility strategies, guide policy decisions, and improve system operations. Your contributions will directly influence the flexibility product design, helping stakeholders understand the value of implicit flexibility and drive innovation in energy solutions.

The main tasks expected are :

• gathering information on available flexibility through various channels (desktop research, interviews, data analysis, estimation methods) ;
• developing and conducting data analyses to determine the relationship between renewable energy forecasts, price information, market player behavior and system imbalances;
• connecting the various elements to get a total view of the installed (related to the hardware, e.g. electric cars), available (able to react on price), and the effectively activated flexibility in the system (observed modification of the injection/consumption profile following a price);
• connecting possible applications for different departments and disseminating the results internally ;

Various data science initiatives are running in the team, therefore it could be possible that you would be involved in some other related activities in the ‘implicit flexibility’ team, in case of needs.

Requirements :

• Quantitative skills
• At least 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist with min. 5 years’ experience in Python programming
• a strong, analytical mind and able to master and understand complex processes.
• able to translate a question into a quantitative analysis or approach. You are strongly driven by facts and figures and you are able to support your reasoning in a clear way using quantitative results.
• sufficient knowledge and experience regarding statistical methods (e.g. machine learning) to perform analysis on large data sets ;
• Energy sector skills
• understand the global workings of the energy market and preferably have several years of experience in the electricity market.
• Other skills
• can combine different types of tasks (from operational to conceptual) and organize yourself autonomously around different tasks. You can distinguish priorities well.
• Quick learner, with a proactive and positive attitude. focus on details without losing sight of the overall picture and deliver flawless work.
• take steering action within a project, also with a view to concrete implementation.
• Fluently in English orally and in writing. Preferably fluent in Dutch and/or French
• like teamwork, results-oriented and able to solve problems. A fluent communication style.

• Location : Empereur (Keizerslaan 20 Brussel)
• Work regime : About 2 days per week on site is desired
• End date : 31/12/2025
