Central Bank of Oman is seeking to Recruit Competent, Committed, Self-motivated and Enthusiastic Omani Candidate as Data Governance Specialist.
Job Purpose:
To ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of data governance policies, standards, and practices across the Central Bank of Oman, supporting the accuracy, integrity, security, and availability of data. The Data Governance Specialist plays a key role in promoting data stewardship, improving data quality, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy, national data governance framework, etc.), and supporting informed decision-making through high-quality data management practices.
Key duties and Tasks:
- Develop, implement, and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards in alignment with organizational and regulatory objectives.
- Collaborate with business units, IT, and compliance teams to promote best practices in data governance and ensure consistent data definitions, classifications, and data handling.
- Support the identification, ownership, and stewardship of critical data assets across the CBO.
- Conduct data quality assessments, define data quality metrics, and coordinate remediation efforts.
- Assist in the implementation of metadata management, master data management, and data lineage documentation tools and processes.
- Monitor compliance with internal data governance policies and external regulatory requirements, including data privacy and data protection laws.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on data governance, advising business units and projects on data-related risks, responsibilities, and requirements.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management on data governance performance, issues, and improvements.
- Promote a culture of data stewardship and accountability through training, awareness, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in information management, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.
- Experience working in complex, and/ or regulated environments organizations.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in data management, Data Governance, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Certification in data governance or related disciplines (e.g., DAMA Certified Data Management Professional, DCAM, CDMP, CIPP).
- Knowledge of financial services regulations (e.g., Basel III, Solvency II, AML, GDPR, local data protection laws).
- Experience in a financial services regulatory agency or related financial institution.
- Track record of contributing to or leading data governance initiatives.
- Experience in regulatory reporting, risk management, or compliance functions.
- Exposure to enterprise data strategy or digital transformation projects.
