Data Governance Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Consultant to lead and support the execution of data governance and compliance initiatives across the enterprise. This role involves close collaboration with data owners, stewards, business units, and IT teams to ensure data is well-managed, secure, and aligned with business, regulatory, and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality, metadata management, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR), along with strong analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary support for data managers across the organization in day-to-day data governance operations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and processes.
• Define and document data definitions, business metadata, ownership, lineage, and usage rules.
• Act as a functional expert with a deep understanding of data domains and related business processes.
• Assist in establishing data stewardship models and roles across departments.
• Monitor data quality, conduct assessments, define business rules, and coordinate remediation activities.
• Support implementation and configuration of data governance and catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation).
• Assist in defining frameworks for new data governance teams and operating models for client organizations.
• Collaborate on major projects to ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
• Identify and implement control points for compliance auditing and data privacy enforcement.
• Participate in internal audits to validate adherence to data governance policies and identify process improvement opportunities.
• Drive awareness and adoption of data governance practices through training materials, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to metadata management, data classification, security, and policy enforcement.
• Track and report data governance KPIs, maturity levels, and compliance metrics.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
• 4–6 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data privacy roles.
• Solid knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
• Familiarity with data quality principles, metadata management, and business glossary development.
• Hands-on experience with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation, etc.
• Strong documentation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with both technical and business teams.
• Self-starter with strong business acumen and understanding of enterprise data domains.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certifications (e.g., CDMP, DGSP, or equivalent).
• Experience in regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, or insurance.
• Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and compliance practices.
• Exposure to cloud data environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and modern data architectures.
