About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Engineer – Data Platforms to join a dynamic team working on a high-impact project within the financial services sector. This is a contract role based in Sydney, offering the chance to contribute to the development of complex Python applications and metadata-driven data pipeline frameworks.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing advanced Pythonic code using established software design patterns.
• Building and maintaining data pipelines using Big Data technologies such as Hortonworks HDP/HDF, Spark, Hive, and NiFi.
• Leveraging Azure services and APIs including ADLSgen2, Event Hubs, Cosmos DB, and Synapse.
• Implementing real-time streaming data solutions using Kafka and Spark Streaming.
• Applying DevOps/DevSecOps practices with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps.
• Working with orchestration tools such as Control-M, ESP, and Airflow.

This role offers exposure to modern data architecture and cloud environments across Azure, AWS, GCP, and more.

The Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring:

• 10–20 years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong emphasis on Python.
• Proven ability to write clean, scalable, and maintainable Python code from scratch.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns.
• Experience in data engineering, including pipeline creation and metadata-driven frameworks.
• Familiarity with Big Data ecosystems and cloud platforms.
• Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for solving complex problems.
• A proactive, diligent, and detail-oriented approach to work.

Candidates with leadership experience in software engineering chapters and knowledge of data warehousing and modelling will be highly regarded.
