The Team

This role is part of a well-established Enterprise Security team, who lead in the design, implementation and troubleshooting of IT security solutions across a variety of technical platforms, data networks and security domains. The solutions involved underpin the organisation’s corporate, market and power system operational functions.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experience Cyber Data Scientist to join our Enterprise Security function. This pivotal role focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to automate and optimise cybersecurity practices, advance threat detection and protection capabilities across the organisation. The role will develop advanced security dashboards and define key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement data-driven strategies that enhance our governance, compliance and incident response capabilities. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing strategic insights, this role will significantly strengthen our cybersecurity posture and enhance our operational resilience in a highly dynamic threat environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cybersecurity Data Governance: Define and implement data governance frameworks that ensure reliable, accurate, and timely cybersecurity data for Cyber Governance, Risk and Compliance initiatives.
  • Dashboard Development and Reporting: Design and maintain AI-driven interactive Management Information (MI) dashboards that provide real-time insights and visibility into the organisation’s cybersecurity posture, focusing on KPIs that align with cybersecurity governance goals.
  • Data Visualisation: Employ advanced data visualisation techniques to present complex cybersecurity data insights clearly, facilitating informed decision making among stakeholders.
  • Advanced Data Analytics and Modelling: Employ advanced AL and ML techniques to analyse complex datasets from sources such as EDR, SIEM and vulnerability scanners, identifying patterns, vulnerabilities, and emerging threats that inform strategic cybersecurity decisions and risk assessments at the enterprise level.
  • Anomaly Detection: Develop threat detection use cases, anomaly detection systems and predictive models to identify malicious activity or security operational risk indicators.
  • Threat Detection: Contribute to the development of threat intelligence platforms by modelling adversary behaviours.
  • Automation of Governance Processes: Lead the development of automated systems and workflows to streamline security governance practices, risk assessments, compliance monitoring and incident response, improving efficiency and reducing response times.
  • Security Policy Development: Utilize AI tools to evaluate and monitor compliance with security policies against network behaviours, automating compliance checks and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cybersecurity analysts, engineers and business units to align data-driven insights with security initiatives, validate and improve detections and automate response workflows.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Support the formulation and implementation of cybersecurity policies that are informed by data analytics, ensuring that compliance requirements and best practices are met across the organisation.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Mentor and train team members on advanced data science techniques and the utilisation of analytics tools, fostering a knowledgeable workforce aligned with the cyber strategy and governance objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest trends in AI, ML and cybersecurity to enhance methodologies and tools used in governance processes. Proactively seek opportunities to innovate and improve existing practices.

Essential

About You

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in Cybersecurity, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field
  • Proficiency in algorithms, frameworks, and tools for building and training ML models.
  • Strong coding abilities in languages such as Python, Java and R, with hands-on experience in data manipulation, analysis, and machine learning model development.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) for creating intuitive dashboards that translate4 complex data into actionable insights.
  • Exceptional analytical thinking with the ability to interpret and synthesize large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable intelligence relevant to cybersecurity.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in applying machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and risk assessment in cybersecurity contexts.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, standards and regulations, particularly in critical infrastructure sectors (e.g., NIS2, CER).
  • Proven experience working in cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Familiarity with advanced ML techniques such as natural language processing (NLP) or deep learning for enhancing treat detection capabilities.
