Do you love leading a team of engineers to tackle exciting challenges and build software that has a real impact on the success of the business? Are your proudest moments when you see your team collaborate to deliver something extraordinary? If so, keep reading!
At Expel, we’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager to guide our Workbench Reporting & Dashboards team. This team is at the heart of building the platform that empowers both our customers and internal teams—like cybersecurity analysts and engagement managers—with the data they need, all in one place, exactly when they need it.
You’ll lead a dedicated group of engineers working across the full stack to deliver software that’s customizable, self-service, and highly performant. Our platform helps visualise critical data from Expel Alerts, Investigations, and Incidents, turning it into actionable insights for our users. Your leadership will be key in helping the team build scalable, intuitive, and reliable software that our users love.
If you’re passionate about building strong teams, fostering collaboration, and delivering software that makes a real difference, we’d love to hear from you!
What Expel can do for you
- Empower your leadership: You’ll have the autonomy to lead, shape, and grow a high-performing engineering team, with the support and resources you need to succeed.
- Further your professional growth: We invest in your career through mentorship, learning opportunities, and a focus on your personal development. Whether it’s honing your technical skills or growing as a leader, we’ve got your back.
- Provide an inclusive culture: We know we’re “better when different.” We’re a stronger organisation when we recognize, celebrate, and learn from those whose backgrounds and perspectives are different from our own.
- Encourage work-life balance: We understand that work is only one part of your life. We offer generous time off and a supportive environment.
- Give you a sense of purpose: You’ll be working on projects that are directly related to our mission of making cybersecurity accessible, reliable, and enjoyable for businesses. Your work will have a real, tangible impact on both customers and the cybersecurity industry.
What you can do for Expel
- Lead with vision: You'll guide your team in delivering innovative solutions to improve our dashboards and reporting platform.
- Develop a culture of excellence: Encourage collaboration, inclusivity, and iterative improvement to inspire your team and achieve high-quality outcomes.
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX, and other teams to align engineering efforts with business goals and deliver impactful solutions.
- Your leadership plays a crucial role in mentoring and developing people's talents, helping team members grow, take on challenges, and advance in their careers.
- Champion data-driven decision-making: By using metrics and insights, you’ll promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, guiding the team to consistently deliver high-performing, reliable software.
What you should bring with you
- 7+ years professional experience leading engineering teams, driving high-performance, and delivering software solutions in a collaborative environment.
- Strong technical skills: You possess a solid understanding of full-stack development, cloud-based services, and software engineering standards, with experience in languages such as Go, JavaScript, or Python.
- Passion for mentoring: You’re committed to helping others grow, with an ability to provide constructive feedback, coaching, and fostering a supportive atmosphere for professional development.
- Agile mentality: You adopt agile methodologies and understand how to coach teams to enhance team productivity and project delivery.
- Excellent communication skills: You can articulate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, fostering collaboration and understanding across teams.
- Data-driven approach: You leverage metrics and analytics to inform decision-making, drive continuous improvement, and measure team performance.

How We Run Teams

Work Location
This is a remote position on a fully remote team within Ireland.
While our headquarters is in Herndon, Virginia (about 30 minutes drive from the US Capitol in Washington D.C.), we are a global company. Most of our team works remotely on a day-to-day basis, and we support collaboration through a variety of online tools designed for remote teamwork.
We come together as a team in Dublin when it makes sense to collaborate in-person, usually once per month. We also hold team touchdowns in Dublin three-to-four times per year, with guests from other Expel locations and team activities.
