Senior Project Manager

We are currently looking for a Senior Project Manager to temporarily strengthen the Operations & Infrastructure team at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

For this position, your base of operations will be the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Ixelles).

Start: 15/08/2025

Man-days: 230

Possibility to extend to extra 115 man-days

Hybrid work setup: minimum 2 days on-site in Brussels, maximum 3 days remote work

Languages: NL or Eng

Minimum Requirements

This project manager, must meet the following requirements:

• Higher education (Master’s or Bachelor’s degree) with a technical/engineering background or equivalent through experience
• Proven experience in technical environments relevant to the nature of the projects
• At least 10 years of experience in infrastructure or development projects, with a minimum of 5 years of experience leading and managing projects with a total budget of at least €1,000,000
• Knowledge of MS Project, MS Office (such as PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
• Knowledge of ITIL
• Very good knowledge of the terminology, organization, roles, and processes within project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, PMI, PMBOK), preferably demonstrated by certification. Ability to share expert-level knowledge in this area
  
  

Additional Competencies:

• Ability to oversee multiple individual projects and to manage and optimize the content-related connections between the various projects
• Proficiency with project management techniques and tools (risk management, issue management, etc.)
• Strong communication and customer-oriented skills, preferably supported by relevant training or experience
  
  

Context for This Specific Role:

• Hybrid work setup: minimum 2 days on-site in Brussels, maximum 3 days remote work
• Supervision of several smaller operational projects related to ICT infrastructure and operations
  
  

Some Examples Of Current Projects Include

• Supervision of digital telephony: we are exploring a possible migration. Technically not highly complex but requires significant follow-up. Similar projects exist around documentation and inventory.
• Due to NIS2, several technical projects are expected. We see added value in profiles with a networking background, possibly team leads of technical operational teams.
