Who we are looking for

We are looking for a mid-senior optical software engineer with a startup mindset to support the development of next generation near-eye displays. The main objective is to lead the development of in-house software for optical element and system design.

What you will do

• Collaborate closely with internal R&D teams to understand current and future software requirements.
• Constantly improve the functionality, reusability and performance of our optical design software.
• Prepare a thorough documentation of the in-house software.
• Create technical documentation for the intellectual property team.

What technical skills you have

Absolute essentials

• Experience with the development of optical simulation and design tools in C, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent programming languages.
• Knowledge and practical experience in applying software engineering principles.
• Basic knowledge of refractive and diffractive optics.

Valuable extras

• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
• Experience with commercial optical design software, such as Zemax OpticStudio, Speos, Lumerical or similar.
• Knowledge of waveguides, gradient-index or freeform optics.
• Experience with the patenting process.

What education you have

• A PhD in Photonics, Optics or a related field with a focus on optical software development. Additional industrial experience would be beneficial.
• Alternatively: a Master's degree and over 5 years of relevant industry experience.
• Professional working level of English.
