Software Engineer – Kotlin & Java

At APS Group IT you will be part of a team with other highly skilled members and collaborate with our colleagues in other regions. You participate in an innovative working environment on complex projects involving marketing technology for leading international corporate customers such as Albert Heijn, Philips, BBC, and the UK Government.

What you will do

You are a key player in the agile software development team that is building one of the core systems and integrations that manage all work throughout our studios. You’ll contribute to the full lifecycle of backend development and regularly dive into frontend tasks when needed. This role combines technical depth with real ownership and direct impact.

• Design, develop, and maintain Kotlin-based backend services
• Collaborate with team members and internal clients across Europe
• Identify opportunities to automate business workflows
• Ensure clean, maintainable code and scalable architecture
• Occasionally explore frontend solutions and prototype interfaces
• Integrate and coordinate a multitude of third-party services seamlessly to provide a unified and real-time experience to our end-users,
• Continuously reflect upon decisions taken in the past, identifying sub-optimal design choices and improving current implementations.

What you bring

We are after someone who is keen to tackle complex architectural challenges and to work on complex projects from start to finish. You are oriented to solve problems, are innovative and can think outside the box. Words that describe you are reliable, punctual, proactive and communicative. You have a wide interest in new technology and encourage a culture of professionalism, customer service and technical excellence. You can communicate in business-level English, both written and spoken.

Your tech stack experience consists of:

• proven experience in Kotlin or Java, preferably involving the development of microservices and usage of event-driven architecture;
• passion for software engineering, striving to deliver code that is clean and follows best practices;
• knowledge in (some of) the following backend technologies: Ktor / Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, ElasticSearch, GraphQL, Gradle, Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD and AWS;
• knowledge in (some of) the following frontend technologies: TypeScript, Nx, Next.js, React, MUI and CloudFlare Pages.

For this role we don’t offer a relocation package.
