Service description:
The Datacom team provides Elia with a reliable and fault-tolerant communication network. The department’s responsibilities include management of fixed and satellite telephony, internet and WiFi connectivity, network security, and the management of different telecommunications platforms supporting remote operation and monitoring of the high-voltage substations, data collection, physical security and communication with other partner companies.
To strengthen our Data Transport Network operations Center (NOC) Team, we are looking to hire a Data Transmission Network Operator, who’s goal will be to ensure the good functioning of the datacom network and ensure incidents are handled in a fast and swift way as well as handle the planning (scheduled or not) of the maintenance/repair of the Elia Data Transmission network.
In Front Desk Operator role:
- Mailbox and call management:
- calls in-take and respond to emails
- take actions and follow-up on small actions, dispatch longer or more complicated tasks.
- Supervision of Datacom networks:
- consult and verify the information and alarms provided by the management systems and network nodes of the different technologies: PDH (NOKIA), SDH (NOKIA), PDH+SDH (Hitachi), DWDM (NOKIA), VOIP (Cisco), IP/MPLS (NOKIA), substation LAN.
- Level 1 Incident Management:
- first level troubleshooting and correlation of events,
- implementation of work-around solutions if possible (e.g. rerouting of PDH, SDH paths),
- dispatch, if necessary, incidents to Elia technicians or to Level 2 or level 3.
- Configuration changes or standard change requests:
- act as single point of contact for other Elia departments (electrical dispatching, IT helpdesk, Asset Management, …) for Datacom requests (changes, new requests, info),
- handle requests as much as possible in close collaboration with concerned colleagues,
- implement configuration changes and requests. (switch port configuration, etc.)
- Planned works execution support:
- Perform checks with dispatching centre, and remotely follow-up works performed by subcontractors or third parties (checking alarms, checking power levels, etc.),
- implement configuration changes if needed,
- work in close collaboration with concerned colleagues,
- restore the network in its original state, if applicable.
In time, in Back Office role:
- Support in the Planning of (fiber) interventions:
- collect and follow-up different planning inputs from different departments, mainly related to planned fiber works (IT Helpdesk for telephony, Datacom for internal projects or maintenance tasks, third party network providers for fibre works, etc.),
- align daily planning between customers, contractors and suppliers.
- Work preparation in case of planned works:
- collection of all necessary information about the involved network,
- make impact analysis on the Datacom network,
- Asset Management) and external clients (e.g. mobile operators) and act as single point of contact for further follow-up,
- investigate possible redundancy mechanisms (e.g. reroute services) to minimize the impact, and implement those mechanisms in case of planned works.
- validate impact analysis of other Planned Works Engineer.
- Level 2 operations:
- Incident Management (dispatched by front office): dispatch/ follow-up problems to Elia technicians (Datacom team and/or other teams), and/or dispatch/ follow-up problems with vendors of different technologies and service providers.
- Project Management:
- Infrastructure Project Support
- Project engineer for DTNOC projects
- Service Delivery Manager for Datacom projects
- Other Network Improvement projects
- DTNOC Organisation, Information Management and Quality Control:
- share experience in oral and written form with other colleagues via on the job training, workshops and written procedures,
- keep inventories in management systems, excel lists, … up to date,
- participate actively to operation and maintenance improvements.

Requirements:
- You are fluent in Dutch or French, with a good knowledge of the other language. You have a good working knowledge of English. (this is an absolute must!)
- should hold a bachelor’s degree in electronics, ICT or telecommunications, or have equivalent technical experience in this field,
- must have already a few years of experience as a Helpdesk officer or Network Operations Support
- must have an all-round practical and operational knowledge of modern LAN and WAN networks and their management: PDH, SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, IP/MPLS, VOIP,
- must be motivated to continuously refine and broaden his/her technical knowledge of Datacom networks and their management,
- needs to be able to work independently and methodically, to set the right priorities, have a sense of responsibility and can assess risks accurately,
- needs to be customer-oriented and cope well with stress,
- must be flexible and approachable (tasks may be suddenly interrupted by urgent operational issues),
- must be able to work in a complex organizational environment,
- must be able to cope with a combination of different network environments and tools,
- must have good communication skills for interacting (mostly via phone) with other colleagues, departments, suppliers, service providers, …

- Office work dependent on team availability and during the training period
- Possible to do homeworking max 3/5 after being able to perform the job independently.
