Back End Developer

Job Title: AI Back End Software Engineer

Salary: £60,000-£70,000

Location: Remote UK

4.5 day working week

We're looking for a seasoned backend engineer to help our client power the next generation of intelligent AI workflows. You'll be a key player in building the infrastructure behind autonomous systems capable of complex, data-informed decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop core infrastructure: architect robust systems for ingesting, processing, and storing both structured and unstructured data at scale.
• Enable smart automation: support AI agents with data pipelines that feed reasoning engines and task execution layers.
• Design modern APIs: create clean, high-performance APIs to expose data to downstream tools and autonomous agents.
• Build scalable pipelines: integrate third-party data sources and harmonise diverse data formats into a cohesive backend.
• Leverage the right storage: work with vector databases and traditional data stores to power advanced semantic search and analysis.
• Collaborate deeply: partner with engineers, product teams, and AI experts to deliver full-stack solutions with real-world impact.
• Focus on excellence: ship systems that are fast, modular, observable, and built to scale from day one.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally with production-level systems
• MERN Stack (MongoDB, ReactJS, NodeJS and Ember)
• Solid grasp of API best practices and flexible data storage solutions (MongoDB or similar)
• Experience with data ingestion from third-party APIs and normalisation across heterogeneous formats
• Familiarity with semantic search, vector indexing, or distributed data systems
• Passion for clean, testable code and building from first principles
• Bonus points for experience in agentic AI, analytics-heavy products, or knowledge platforms
