Role summary

As a Game Designer, you will play a crucial role in the development of fun and engaging gameplay levels, mechanics, and systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design environmental content, fine-tune level moments, and refine game balance.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of level design, game mechanics, and player psychology, with a special emphasis on rapid prototyping. Experience with tuning vehicle handling and AI behaviours is highly desirable.

Role Responsibilities

  • Game Level Design: Design and implement engaging levels, worlds, and environments that are fun, balanced, and intuitive. Focus on creating experiences that enhance the overall game narrative and player progression.
  • Prototyping and Iteration: Build and test prototypes to experiment with new ideas and mechanics. Iterate rapidly based on internal feedback and player data.
  • Game Mode Creation: Design and iterate on various game modes that drive player engagement, ensuring they are innovative, balanced, and compelling for different playstyles.
  • Car Mechanics and Retuning: Work closely with vehicle designers to tweak and retune car mechanics (handling, speed, etc.) to ensure vehicles feel responsive and satisfying. Adjust tuning parameters based on feedback and testing.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyse game data, player feedback, and metrics to iterate on and refine gameplay mechanics, balancing, and economies.
  • Tuning In-Game Economies: Fine-tune in-game economies (such as currency, rewards, progression systems) to ensure a balanced, rewarding player experience that keeps players engaged.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside artists, programmers, and other designers to implement features, troubleshoot issues, and ensure cohesive game design across all aspects of the project.
  • QA and Playtesting: Participate in the playtesting process, identify issues, and provide actionable solutions for improving the player experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with level design, including world-building, environmental storytelling, and player progression.
  • Experience as a Game Designer with a strong portfolio of shipped titles (preferably in a similar genre or involving complex systems like driving mechanics).
  • Deep understanding of car mechanics (e.g., car handling, tuning systems) and experience with retuning gameplay elements to improve player experience.
  • Strong knowledge of balancing game economies (in-game currencies, rewards, and player progression systems).
  • Ability to work with and interpret game data, balancing numbers, and adjusting systems based on analytics and player feedback.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on making design decisions that positively impact the overall game experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience using Unreal Engine.

Advantageous extras:

  • Experience with vehicle physics engines or racing games.
  • Familiarity with player retention strategies and balancing multiplayer game modes.
  • Experience with scripting or programming (e.g., C++, or similar languages).

Even if you don’t meet every single requirement listed, we still encourage you to apply — your unique experience and perspective might be exactly what we need!
