About Surgical Reality
Surgical Reality is a MedTech startup developing advanced 3D visualization software for surgical practice, powered by advanced computer vision and AI algorithms. Our mission is to provide patient-specific anatomical models that improve surgical insight, confidence, and treatment outcomes. Over the past years, we’ve built a product for complex lung surgery, used by surgeons both preoperatively and intraoperatively, a kind of GPS in the OR. Our lung product has recently received CE certification and is now being introduced on the market!
Driven by growing clinical interest, we are expanding into imaging applications. These are developed in close collaboration with surgeons, as we study current imaging standards and workflows to build AI models that accurately label and visualize relevant anatomical structures. As an intern, you’ll contribute directly to these innovative developments in our new imaging development.
Your Role
As a biomedical/AI engineer intern, you will play a key role in generating and optimizing 3D anatomical models from medical scans. This work involves training advanced deep learning models, which require accurately labeled data. You will contribute towards data labeling (we use the program 3D Slicer), model training, and the development of image processing pipelines to ensure high-quality, clinically meaningful segmentations. You’ll be working at the intersection of anatomy, surgical workflows, medical image analysis, AI development, and programming. Throughout your internship, you will be supervised by our senior AI engineer and supported by a multidisciplinary team of experts in computer vision, 3D modeling, and AI.
Responsibilities
- Data collection and data labeling
- Develop and test AI models within MLops cycles (data cleaning, post-processing, training, validation)
- Review scientific literature and contribute to research and development innovations
- Collaborate on new developments in new imaging applications
Your Profile
- 2nd year BSc or higher in Engineering, Comp Sci or Technical Medicine (or similar field)
- Familiarity with Python (e.g. NumPy, SciPy)
- Interest in medical technology and applications
- Curious and eager to learn about deep learning frameworks (such as PyTorch or TensorFlow) and computer vision tools (e.g. scikit-image, ITK, OpenCV)
- You can build consensus on complex issues, through your empathy, internal credibility and visibility
What We Offer
- €400/month internship compensation for full-time & part-time negotiable
- Hybrid working model (remote + on-site at our tech campus in Nieuw-Vennep)
- Free on-site lunches
- Work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team
- Opportunity to visit hospitals and see your work in clinical practice
