About the Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Python Developer to join a major government program aimed at transforming core systems and delivering modern, citizen-focused services. This role is suited for a motivated developer who enjoys working across the full data science lifecycle and is confident building, training, and deploying machine learning models within a Microsoft Azure and Databricks environment.
Location: ACT, NSW, VIC, SA, QLD
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain Python-based applications, scripts, and tools.
- Design and implement solutions for processing large datasets from Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) Gen2, Synapse, and Databricks environments.
- Build, train, and optimise machine learning models using Python libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and MLflow.
- Create automated pipelines and deployment strategies using Azure Machine Learning, Databricks Model Serving, and containerisation.
- Implement monitoring and retraining strategies to ensure model accuracy and relevance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and contribute to the data science strategy.
- Maintain high coding standards, ensuring code is well-documented, tested, and version-controlled.
- Occasional travel to Canberra may be required (e.g., for onboarding or team planning sessions).
Highly Desirable Criteria
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working with Databricks, Spark, and MLflow.
- Exposure to model deployment frameworks such as Azure Machine Learning or Databricks Model Serving.
- A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience working on government transformation programs.
- Ability to work with sensitive data, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
- Knowledge of microservices and RESTful API integration.
Skills and Experience
- Strong Python programming skills, particularly using frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Experience with data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
- Demonstrated ability to build and evaluate machine learning models.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to convert business needs into technical solutions.
- Prior experience working in Azure and Databricks environments.
- Must currently hold Baseline or higher security clearance.
