DevOps Engineer

We are hiring for a DevOps Engineer for one of our Federal Clients.

Role: Senior DevOps Engineer

Location of work: Canberra

Contract duration: 12 months + 24 months extension.

Security clearance: Australian Citizen with Baseline Security Clearance.

Overview:

The successful applicants will have good practical and demonstrated experience across a broad range of Cloud capabilities and have pragmatic Commonwealth Security experience to assist with security accreditation/incidents/responses. They will also participate in the Cloud Operations on-call roster.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain automated cloud infrastructure using Terraform and other IaC tools.

• Provide technical expertise to ensure the reliable operation and scalability of cloud platforms.

• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure cloud solutions meet current and future business requirements.

• Lead DevOps initiatives including CI/CD pipeline development, configuration management, and environment provisioning.

• Support security accreditation, incident response, and compliance activities with pragmatic Commonwealth Security experience.

• Share technical knowledge and mentor team members in IaC and DevOps best practices.

• Maintain the currency, security, and maintainability of ACIC’s cloud platforms.

• Deliver cloud and platform outcomes for ACIC projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

• Experience in working with Landing Zone architectures, best-practice and deployments.

• Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies and tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins).

• Familiarity with ACSC Essential 8 and its application in cloud environments.

• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.

• Participate in the Cloud Operations on-call roster to ensure 24/7 support coverage.

• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.

• Providing technical expertise to ensure continued operation of a range of cloud platforms.

• Ensuring that current and future business requirements are being met for the ACIC.

• Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external parties, including senior stakeholders.

• Sharing of technical knowledge across the team

Essential Criteria:

• Demonstrated contemporary broad cloud domain knowledge and technical skills.
• Demonstrated experience delivering and supporting enterprise cloud environments, with a focus on automation, scalability, and operational resilience across Azure and Microsoft 365 platforms.
• Proficient in designing and managing cloud infrastructure using IaC tools such as Terraform or Bicep, ensuring repeatable, version-controlled deployments and environment consistency.
• Extensive experience in cloud-native DevOps, including the design and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation using Terraform, and managing version-controlled cloud environments. Skilled in deploying secure, scalable solutions on Azure, with strong proficiency in integrating testing, monitoring, and release automation using tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
• Experience administering secure cloud environments aligned with the ACSC Essential 8 and ISM, including automated compliance checks, logging, and incident response readiness.

Desirable Criteria:

• Tertiary ICT qualifications and/or equivalent demonstrated industry experience are highly regarded.
• Skilled in translating business needs into scalable technical solutions, aligning cloud architecture and automation strategies with organisational goals and project outcomes.
• Exceptional communication and engagement skills with a range of stakeholders, including senior users.
• Proficiency in translating business requirements into technical capabilities.
