Join the newest addition to the WNBA family as we bring professional women’s basketball to Canada! The Toronto Tempo is the WNBA’s 14th franchise and first Canadian team set to tip off in May 2026. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Analyst, Basketball Data reporting to the Assistant General Manager, to join our team.
Job Summary:
The Analyst, Basketball Data will support the Assistant General Manager in deriving actionable insights from complex datasets. This position will play a pivotal role in transforming raw data into meaningful insights that drive performance, strategy, and decision-making across the organization. This position sits at the intersection of sports science, data analytics, and competitive strategy. The Analyst, Basketball Data will be responsible for analyzing player and team performance, identifying trends, creating predictive models, and delivering actionable recommendations to coaches, scouts, and executives. The ideal candidate is not only technically skilled but also deeply passionate about sports and understands the nuances of athletic performance and competition.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, clean, and analyze performance, biometric, and game data on an ongoing basis to provide key insights for the Basketball Operations leadership team.
- Develop statistical models to evaluate and predict player performance and potential.
- Create dashboards, systems and visualizations to communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Design and implement a data analytics roadmap aligned with the Tempo’s basketball operations strategic goals.
- Provide data driven reports and studies to support player development programs.
- Break down film and present data effectively to coaches and athletes to make strategic decisions.
- Collaborate with coaching staff to integrate analytics and lineup data into game strategy and player development.
- Conduct opponent scouting and game simulations using statistical models.
- Create team and player progress reports to assist front office in long-term planning.
- Stay current with trends in sports analytics, machine learning, AI, and data science.
- Provide front office with data insights to assist with all basketball strategy functions including expansion drafts, free agency, WNBA draft, and trade deadline.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Sport Science, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management or a related field required.
- 1-3 years of experience working in a sports organization or an analytics role required.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software (ex. Python, SQL) and data visualization tools (ex. Tableau, Power BI) required.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, and data wrangling.
- Familiarity with sports tracking data (e.g., SportVU, Catapult, Second Spectrum) considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills considered an asset.
- Passion for sports and a deep understanding of game rules and strategies.
- Valid passport and ability to travel globally for weeks at a time.
