About SteerAI

SteerAI is an autonomous mobility technology company powered by VentureOne, the commercialization arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council. SteerAI’s advanced AI-powered autonomy stack, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, empowers the logistics and defense industries by turning industrial vehicles into autonomous powerhouses that can handle complex off-road missions, transforming operations and protecting organizations' most important assets: their workforce.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a versatile Embedded Systems Engineer to design, develop, and integrate advanced robotic and mechatronic platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong expertise in embedded programming, hardware integration, and electro-mechanical systems. You’ll work hands-on to bring up systems, assemble and wire components, implement control algorithms, and ensure seamless coordination between hardware and software. You will play a key role in delivering robust, reliable autonomous systems ready for demanding field environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop embedded system solutions for robotic and mechatronic platforms, focusing on low-level control and control algorithm development.
  • Implement control algorithms for actuators, motors, and sensor interfaces.
  • Assemble, integrate, and test electrical and electronic components to meet system requirements and safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and autonomy teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system-level hardware and software issues during development and testing.
  • Conduct field and bench testing of integrated systems to validate functionality and reliability.
  • Document processes, designs, and system configurations for future reference and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to rapid prototyping and iterative hardware development from concept to deployment.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded systems development, preferably in robotics, automotive, or industrial automation.
  • Proficiency in embedded development using microcontrollers such as STM32, NXP, or similar platforms.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Hands-on experience with PCB assembly, soldering, harness building, and wiring.
  • Deep understanding of control mechanisms for various motor types (DC, BLDC, stepper) and associated motor controllers.
  • Solid knowledge of power electronics and protection circuitry.
  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCAD).
  • Background in integrating sensors such as LiDAR, cameras, and IMUs for autonomous systems.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols including CAN, RS-485, UART, and Ethernet.

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing autonomous or safety-critical embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Exposure to cybersecurity practices in embedded systems.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package, and the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in the autonomous robotics industry. Our work culture is collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on innovation and personal growth.

If you're passionate about building advanced embedded systems that power the future of mobility — we’d love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
