Job Description
The Council for Science and Technology (CST) is the government’s top-level advisory body on science and technology issues. The Council provides independent advice directly to the Prime Minister and Cabinet on strategic science and technology issues that cut across the responsibilities of individual government departments.
Recent advice has covered climate adaptation, healthcare and how to increase access to finance to allow innovative UK companies to scale up.
The Council is supported by a secretariat in the Government Office for Science. The CST secretariat help ensure the Council’s advice is timely, of excellent quality, and has enduring impact on public policy and decision making.
This role will support the CST Secretariat's engagement function, which is responsible for meetings and events, communications, and stakeholder management.
The role is central to maintaining CST’s influence and relationships with Ministers, senior officials and policy teams across government.

Key Responsibilities
Working with the Secretariat engagement team on organisation of CST meetings with Ministers and senior government representatives. This includes:
Supporting on logistics, guest attendance and the preparation of background papers.
Working collaboratively across government and wider stakeholders to arrange guest attendance.
Co-ordinating input into briefing to support members and guests.
Supporting the Head of Engagement in maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across government. This includes:
Arranging regular meetings with policy teams to support the development of new projects and evaluate the impact of previous Council recommendations
Supporting collaboration with key stakeholders across the science and technology networks on CST advice such as international counterparts to CST, the Chief Scientific Advisers network and the National Academies.
Supporting the Head of Engagement in maintaining CST profile. This includes:
Producing clear communications to CST members, stakeholders, and public audiences that highlight projects, recommendations, and events.
Employing ‘light-touch’ project management practices to monitor progress against timelines and review the engagement plan or priorities if necessary.
