Position Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cybersecurity Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in networking, programming, and system administration, along with a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing security solutions to protect the organization’s digital assets and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our Client office at a minimum 3 days per week - subject to change at any time.

Your future duties and responsibilities

  • Define security scope and requirements for assigned projects, including functional and non-functional security needs.
  • Develop and execute security test cases aligned with project objectives.
  • Implement and manage cybersecurity tools and platforms.
  • Onboard data sources to the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system.
  • Design and automate playbooks and processes within a SOAR platform.
  • Ensure compliance with internal security policies, standards, procedures, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of cybersecurity capabilities and solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Identify security gaps and recommend best practices to enhance Aviva Canada's cybersecurity posture.
  • Monitor emerging threats and assess their potential impact on the organization.
  • Manage and troubleshoot cybersecurity tools across both Windows and Linux environments.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT or networking, with at least 3 years dedicated to cybersecurity.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity engineering across two or more of the following domains:
  • SIEM and SOAR platforms
  • Network security and firewalls
  • Endpoint protection
  • Cloud security
  • Identity and access management
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks, threat modeling, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, and GDPR.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

We are seeking individuals with expertise in IT engineering-related functions, but licensure from an engineering regulator is not a prerequisite for this position. Engineering is a regulated profession in Canada which is restricted in terms of use of titles and designation.
