Senior PHP Developer

You’ll be the first developer hired in Canada, setting the tone for the team that follows.

A well-established international software company has just landed its biggest ever deal in Canada. Now they’re building a new delivery team here, starting with you.

Location: Canada (must be able to visit Ottawa occasionally)

Salary: CA$100,000 to CA$140,000

Holidays: 24 days + public holidays + Christmas shutdown

You’ll be joining a global dev team already working successfully across the UK and Australia. The software is a multi-tenant SaaS platform used by political organisations and government teams to manage casework and constituent relationships.

This is a full-stack role with a backend lean. You’ll take ownership of key features from scoping through to deployment and help shape how things are built in the Canadian market.

Tech you’ll be using:

• React and Redux on the frontend
• PHP on the backend, with some legacy code being modernised
• MySQL for databases
• Docker for development environments
• Bitbucket Pipelines for CI/CD

Cloud experience isn’t essential. You’ll get support from the existing team and learn the infrastructure as you go.

What they’re looking for:

• Strong experience with PHP (ideally version 7 or 8)
• Comfortable with React and modern JavaScript
• Confident working with MySQL, including schema design and performance
• Familiar with containerised development (Docker)
• Based in Canada and able to travel to Ottawa a few times a year
• Comfortable working independently and collaborating remotely

You’ll work closely with the Product Engineering Manager, senior developers in the UK and Australia, and the Managing Director, who still writes code. It’s a collaborative, delivery-focused team that values clean code, good communication, and a sense of ownership.
