Applied AI/ML Engineer – HealthTech | Vienna (Remote with Onsite visits)

I am partnered with a rapidly scaling health tech innovator at the forefront of the scientific AI revolution. Backed by top-tier investors and collaborating with some of the world’s most influential biopharma organisations, this company is building an AI-driven platform that is transforming the way scientific data is harnessed across the life sciences sector.

Their platform is deeply integrated with leading cloud and AI infrastructure, enabling scalable, reusable AI applications that accelerate drug discovery and development. This is a rare opportunity to make a direct impact on pharmaceutical R&D at scale, while working in a mission-driven, startup-minded team.

The Role:

We are seeking talented Applied AI/ML Engineers to:

  • Design, develop, train and validate AI/ML products addressing real-world pharmaceutical challenges.
  • Lead and own end-to-end projects, from ideation through deployment, with autonomy and visibility.
  • Advise executive leadership on technical and commercial feasibility of AI initiatives.
  • Collaborate directly with clients and cross-functional teams, shaping solutions that accelerate drug development.

Projects span multiple cutting-edge domains, including:

  • Reinforcement Learning on large, continuous datasets
  • LLMs and NLP for ingesting and contextualising complex scientific documents
  • Protein design and diffusion models for next-generation therapeutics

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience in AI/ML model development and deployment at scale (10+ years).
  • Strong programming skills in Python (essential).
  • Exceptional experience in Traditional ML/Reinforcement Learning or GenAI LLMs/NLPs.
  • Experience with Protein Design or Diffusion Models, or comfort working with biological data, including proteins, amino acids, or small molecule structures.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior stakeholders and presenting complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Prior experience in Pharmaceutical R&D (5+ years).
  • Familiarity with Databricks, AWS, and MLOps workflows is a bonus.

This role is remote-first with a requirement to be on-site in Vienna approximately 20% of the time for Pharma client collaboration. This is a full time, permanent role offering a competitive salary and generous benefits. You will need right to work within Vienna, we cannot offer sponsorship for this role.
