Freelance Machine Learning Engineer – 12 Months

Location: Brussels Hybrid (50% on-site) | Sector: Banking | Start: ASAP

A major banking institution is seeking a Freelance Machine Learning Engineer to help industrialize AI solutions by developing production-grade pipelines and ensuring seamless model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.

Role Overview

You’ll collaborate with data scientists and IT teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and automated ML services. This includes designing infrastructure-aware solutions, automating workflows, and ensuring robust integration with existing systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-design ML solutions with data scientists, taking production constraints into account
• Automate and deploy ML pipelines using containerization and CI/CD best practices
• Implement model and data versioning, testing frameworks, and performance monitoring
• Act as a technical bridge between AI teams and IT operations for deployment and maintenance
• Ensure models are monitored, retrained when needed, and integrated with business metrics

Mandatory Skills

• 4+ years of experience in ML engineering or related roles
• Strong Python development and CI/CD experience (e.g., GitLab CI)
• Hands-on with containerization/virtualization (Docker, VMs)
• Proficient in data/model/code versioning and dependency management
• Experience with PostgreSQL and related tooling
• Fluent in English; working proficiency in French or Dutch is a PLUS
• Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and collaborative delivery

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Spark, ETL/ELT workflows, and data flow orchestration
• Knowledge of legacy systems integration and hybrid infrastructure
• Experience with model compression, performance tuning, or data visualization tools
