Senior Java Software Engineer

Senior Java Developer - Freelance - Amsterdam

We’re looking for a highly experienced hands-on Senior Java Developer, ideally with experience and a background in threat protection, authentication, and token management. You’ll join a distributed engineering team delivering secure, scalable digital solutions across Europe.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading engineering initiatives with a focus on secure, scalable applications
• Partnering with Product to validate feature feasibility and security requirements
• Delivering complex technical projects iteratively (including proof-of-concepts)
• Mentoring junior team members and driving best practices

Tech Stack

• Core: Java (Spring/Spring Boot), Postgres, Kubernetes
• Tools: Git, Slack, observability platforms (Datadog or similar)

You’ll need

• 6+ years’ experience as a software engineer and proven tech lead
• Strong knowledge of authentication, token management, and threat protection
• Understanding of secure coding, OWASP Top 10, and best practices (BDD/TDD)
• Experience collaborating with Product, Security, and Business stakeholders

Nice to have

• Knowledge of OpenID Connect (OIDC)
• Kubernetes/containerisation experience
• Familiarity with “Accelerate” principles for delivery performance
