AI & Data Science Internship: Job Description
We are seeking a curious and motivated AI & Data Science Intern to join the People Analytics team at Assurant. This role is ideal for students with foundational knowledge in AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Generative AI. The internship provides a dynamic learning environment where you will explore how advanced analytics and behavioral insights can drive meaningful improvements in the employee experience. You'll gain hands-on experience applying analytics and behavioral science to people-centered challenges, working alongside an experienced team to develop advanced analytical tools and implement innovative solutions for our global HR organization.
Conduct Analysis/Development 80%

Conduct Analysis/Development 80%
- Gain exposure to real-world applications of AI in a corporate HR environment.
- Critical thinking & problem-solving Skills
- Hands-on experience in Python, SQL, SharePoint, Power BI
- Process and analyze workforce related data using primarily Python
- Derive actionable insights from enriched employee-related datasets to inform HR decisions.
- Design, develop, and implement novel deep learning, computer vision and language modeling algorithms for unique use cases.
- Develop Large Language Model/Generative AI capabilities and evaluate LLM models on statistical tests, business metrics and bias
- Design and build custom neural network architectures tailored to HR and workforce applications.
- Evaluate accuracy and quality of the designed models as well as data sources
- Present analytical insights and recommendations to HR and business leaders
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative, people-centered solutions
- Support the creation of process maps, SOPs, and documentation
- Strengthen written and verbal communication through collaborative projects
- Minimum of 2nd year completed and currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Management, Information Systems, or related program of study.
- Data cleaning and transformation capabilities
- General understanding of data science process flow
- Understanding of advanced Statistics, Probability, Machine and Deep Learning algorithms
- Proficient with Python or R
- Proficient with SQL Query language and relevant techniques (tables, indexing, filtering, joins, Window functions, etc.)
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented and possess excellent follow up skills
- Must be organized and work well with constant priority changes
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

- Sustains a positive outlook and views challenges as opportunities
- Analytical/strategic thinker
- Ability to quickly learn new applications
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to quickly provide sound decisions and perform tasks with less than complete information
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences (Applied Mathematics or Statistics), Data Analytics, Data Science, Computational Physics, Operations Research, or related disciplines.
- Experience in advanced data analytics and visualization tools
- Related work or equivalent project experience
- Research and development experience in the field of Prompt Engineering, Large Language Models (LLM) and Generative AI
