Frontend Developer – Strasbourg (Hybrid) - European Commission

Role: Frontend Developer.
Seniority: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in front-end development.
Location: Strasbourg (Candidates must be available to relocate or already reside in the región).
Modality: Hybrid (3 days at the office, 2 days remotely within 2hours from the office).
Security clearance is required (Having security cleareance or being cleareable mean that an individual has been vetted and authorized to access classified information related to national or EU security).
CONTEXT
Eu-LISA (European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice) is the EU agency responsible for the operational management of critical IT systems supporting border management, asylum and migration, and internal security. These systems include Eurodac, SIS, VIS, EES, ETIAS, and ECRIS-TCN.
Headquartered in Tallinn (Estonia), with operational headquarters in Strasbourg (France) and a technical site in Austria, eu-LISA plays a central role in ensuring the interoperability, availability and security of systems at the core of European justice and home affairs (JHA) operations.
PROJECT
The EDAC Recast project is part of eu-LISA’s ongoing efforts to modernise and enhance the Eurodac system— used to collect and compare the fingerprints of asylum seekers and irregular migrants.
The system will be upgraded to support:

- Increased data capacity and improved biometric matching.
- New legal requirements from the updated Eurodac regulation (Recast).
- Interoperability with other large-scale JHA systems.
- Enhanced performance, usability and scalability.
REQUESTED PROFILES
Frontend Developers (React + Typescript)
Responsibilities:
- Write clean, modular and structured code to implement layouts, styles and interactive functionalities.
- Build reusable components and front-end libraries for future use.
- Work closely with UI/UX designers to translate designs into responsive and visually consistent web interfaces.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of proposed UI/UX designs.
- Use version control tools (e.g., GitHub) to manage changes, collaborate with teammates and maintain an organised codebase.
- Communicate effectively with designers, back-end developers, product owners and stakeholders to ensure integration of front-end with the rest of the system.
- Optimise applications for performance, responsiveness and scalability.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in front-end development.
- Strong hands-on experience with React and TypeScript.
- Solid knowledge of the web development lifecycle (design, development, deployment).
- Experience in browser testing, debugging and optimisation.
- Strong analytical and multitasking skills; attention to detail; business-oriented mindset.
- A technical portfolio showcasing a variety of front-end work.
- Experience in client-facing roles and large-scale IT projects is desirable.
- Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The selection process includes two main parts:
- Technical Assessment Candidates will be given a code snippet to debug and improve as part of the technical interview.
- Live Presentation Candidates must present a real-world or personal project, explaining their technical contributions, tools used, and project outcomes.
While security clearance is required, candidates may start working under the following conditions:
- Signing a confidentiality declaration.
- Providing a recent criminal record certificate (within 30 days).
- Initiating the security clearance process.
