Java Developer (AWT, Swing) – Transport
Hybrid: Birmingham (2 days per week)

My new client has an exciting opportunity for a Software developer happy to travel to Birmingham. The Software Developer will collaborate with their technical team to craft and implement cutting edge software tailored for the aviation industry. The primary focus of this role, will involve the design and development of specialised software solutions within the aviation BU, aligning with the innovative and high-impact nature of their industry-specific projects.
MUST HAVE experience with Java AWT/Swing and developing large desktop applications.
In This Role, You Will Be Expected To
- Invent new software solutions to solve engineering and architectural design problems.
- Develop, Maintain, improve and re-invent existing company products.
- Work closely with product management to gather software requirements.
- Work with project team to plan, analyse and estimate project timelines.
- Assist customer support, sales and marketing departments.
- Contribute to continuous improvements within the agile software development process.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders and be accountable to each other to achieve the project’s vision.
About You
- Full-stack developer comfortable working with users to develop innovative new tools to solve engineering problems. (Including requirements analysis, software design and implementation, algorithm development and user interface).
- Work well in a deadline-driven agile software development environment.
- Working knowledge of UML, UI design, database schema and software life cycle tools.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and tactfully.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related fields.
- 3 or more years of experience in Java application development.
- Experience in developing large desktop applications and client/server applications.
- Experience in developing critical operational software that runs 24/7.
- Experience with End-to-end testing and unit testing.
- Designing and debugging multi-threaded applications.
- Java networking (TCP/UDP sockets, web services, messaging services).
- HMI/GUI design using Java AWT/Swing.
