Head of Engineering

The Role

We're hiring on behalf of our client who are an early-stage startup with a bold and meaningful mission, building a category-defining product at the intersection of AI and human-centered technology. As Head of Engineering, you will take the lead in building and scaling the core product platform. This is a foundational role, offering the opportunity to shape not only the technical architecture but also the culture and direction of the engineering team from the ground up.

You’ll be responsible for full-stack execution (with a mobile-first approach), setting up systems for scale, and working closely with the founding team to drive product innovation from day one.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and development of core systems from MVP through to scale, with a strong focus on mobile-first infrastructure
• Own both frontend and backend development, ensuring high performance, excellent user experience, and long-term scalability
• Build and manage a high-quality, distributed engineering team, helping to define the culture as it grows
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Growth to align user needs with product and business objectives
• Set up systems that prioritise privacy, security, and actionable data insights - particularly where behavioural data and personalisation are involved
• Contribute to and evolve the broader technical vision and product roadmap, with a focus on purposeful innovation and long-term impact

Ideal Candidate

• Experience as a Founding Engineer or early technical leader within a fast-paced start-up environment
• Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality, consumer-facing products
• Strong technical skills with modern frameworks and tools such as React Native, Flutter, Python, Node, Firebase, or similar
• A hands-on approach to leadership - comfortable writing code while also shaping strategic decisions
• Background or interest in AI/ML, behavioural data, or personalisation is highly valued
