Backend Platform Engineer - Core Trading SystemsOur client is reimagining how core trading platform operate. They're building a high-performance, reliable, and scalable system that enables active retail and institutional traders to access capital markets with precision and speed.They are a fast-moving team building a new order management system from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to work on a greenfield project in a start-up environment backed by experienced engineers and thoughtful architecture.Project: Order & Execution Management System (OEMS) — the foundation of our next-gen trading platform. This includes:API Gateways for accessing the trading platform backend.Order lifecycle management: ingestion, validation, and execution of trades.Real-time risk checks and compliance workflows.Support for multiple asset classes: U.S. Equities, Options, and eventually Crypto, Fixed Income, and international markets.Integration with internal data systems for analytics and reporting.Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems in a low-latency, high-throughput environment.Help build our core OEMS platform from scratch alongside a small team of senior engineers.Own the architecture and development of API Gateways (Kong, AWS-based).Contribute to data infrastructure: querying relational databases (Postgres), in-memory caching, data pipelines.Work on high-performance messaging and event-driven systems (e.g., FIX, ITCH, Aeron).Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering and product teams.Contribute ideas on system design, technical direction, and long-term platform strategy.Must Have Skills:5+ years in Backend Engineering; proficient in low-latency, high-performance systems using Rust, Go/Golang, and/or Low-Latency Java.Strong knowledge of API design and development (REST, API gateways like Kong or AWS)Experience with relational databases (Postgres or similar)Comfort with event-driven architectures and distributed systemsNice-to-Have Skills:Experience with high-performance messaging protocols (FIX, ITCH, OUCH, Aeron)Familiarity with U.S. Equities, Options, or similar asset classesExposure to crypto, fixed income, or international trading platformsFamiliarity with Kafka, Snowflake, or similar data pipelinesPersonal trading interest or experience (not required, but helpful context)
