🚀 Position: Senior Gameplay Programmer – Neoronin Interactive

📍 Location: Remote Europe – Preferably in Portugal

Contract Type: Full-Time

💰 Salary: Based on experience

NeoRonin Interactive is a young video game development company focused on crafting hardcore games — experiences that respect the player’s intelligence and time investment.

We aim to deliver deep, complex, and challenging gameplay that demands dedication and rewards mastery. Our mission is guided by a clear set of principles: prioritizing core gameplay, embracing complexity, and targeting a committed audience that values skill-based progression and meaningful challenge.

We are currently developing an operational and tactical combat simulation set in a stylized vision of future warfare — blending realistic systems with bold design choices. To help us bring this vision to life, we are looking for an experienced Senior Gameplay Programmer to work on key gameplay systems while also contributing significantly to the implementation of the user interface. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across both game logic and player-facing features.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain core gameplay systems using C++ in Unreal Engine.

• Develop features such as combat mechanics, AI behaviors, mission systems, and player abilities.

• Implement responsive and intuitive player input, camera systems, and control schemes.

• Collaborate with designers to prototype and iterate on gameplay features based on feedback.

• Build systems related to gameplay logic, game states, and progression flow.

• Work with the animation team to integrate character animations and transitions into gameplay.

• Contribute to systems like health, inventory, targeting, and interaction mechanics.

• Optimize gameplay features for performance, memory usage, and scalability.

• Debug and resolve gameplay-related issues across development stages.

• Support integration of gameplay with UI elements such as HUDs, prompts, and mission indicators.

• Develop and maintain custom UI components in UMG when connected to gameplay logic in collaboration with the UI Programmers.

• Maintain clean, modular, and well-documented code aligned with the overall project architecture.

Requirements

• Professional experience as a Gameplay Programmer, preferably with strong involvement in UI development.

• Advanced knowledge of C++ in Unreal Engine.

• Deep understanding of game architecture, input systems, game loops, and data flow.

• Proven experience building gameplay mechanics and interactive systems.

• Experience creating UI systems using UMG, both with Blueprints and C++.

• Solid knowledge of UI/UX principles and how they translate into technical implementation in relation to gameplay and UI programming.

• Familiarity with animation systems, visual feedback, and state machines.

• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.

• Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git or Perforce).

• Fluent English (written and spoken).

Soft Skills Requirements

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.

• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.

• Proactive attitude and willingness to tackle challenges.

• High level of autonomy and accountability in remote work environments.

• Passion for creating polished and intuitive player experiences.

What We Offer

• Above-average salary for the Portuguese market.

• Flexible remote work options.

• A dynamic and challenging environment, with innovative and ambitious projects.

• Significant growth opportunities, including the potential to take on leadership roles in the future.

Application Process

The selection process consists of two interview stages:

1. Personal Interview – To evaluate your motivation, profile, and soft skills, and to introduce you to our project.

2. Technical Interview – To assess your technical expertise and discuss the challenges of the role.

If you’re ready to build the core systems and user experience of a cutting-edge combat simulation game, send your portfolio and CV to [email protected] with the subject: “Senior Gameplay Programmer”.
